Synopsis
Set in a post-collapse world of chaos and a return to the old gods and mysticism, Mariposa Arts Theatre presents William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the enduring story of fate, identity, and power.
When three witches prophesize that Macbeth, Thane of Glamis, will become King of Scotland a bloody and violent course is set in motion. Drunk on self-assured invincibility, the intoxicating ambition of Lady Macbeth, and supernatural paranoia, Macbeth murders with abandon and demonstrates that "absolute power corrupts absolutely." In the wake of this tyranny the Macbeths, and all those around them, pay the ultimate price.
HISTORY
The Tragedy of Macbeth, often shortened to Macbeth, is a tragedy by William Shakespeare, estimated to have been first performed in 1606. It was first published in the Folio of 1623, possibly from a prompt book, and is Shakespeare's shortest tragedy. Scholars believe Macbeth, of all the plays that Shakespeare wrote during the reign of King James I, contains the most allusions to James, patron of Shakespeare's acting company.
